Introduction

Photography by: www.photovekris.gr

Amorgos, the most eastern island of the Cyclades, seems to protect the eastern Small Cyclades due to its oblong shape. It stands proudly at the centre of the Southern Aegean Sea acting as the crossroad where the North meets the South. It’s the “exit” from the islands of the eastern Aegean towards the coast of Asia Minor.
Amorgos, an island of rich cultural heritage and particular wild beauty, the island of the deep blue, can’t but create a daunting feeling to its visitor.

Geographical and morphological characteristics

Amorgos is situated between the islands of Naxos and Astypalaia and along the imaginary line that joins Piraeus with the Dodecanese Islands. Its shape is quite elongated with a length of about 32 km. The narrowest passage has a width of 3 km, with the widest being around 12km, while the total length of its coastline amounts to 112 km. It has an area of 121 sq km. It is the seventh largest island of the Cyclades, and the 25th island of Greece.
