Arkesini - Kolofana - Kalotaritissa
Following the road that snakes along the back of Amorgos as you leave the Capital, Hora, you encounter Agios Georgios Valsamitis after 5 kilometers on your right, Stavros, at around 7 km, the area of Markiani with its ancient ruins at around 9 km, and then you finally arrive at Kato Meria. The well kept fields of the households in the area with various plantations, their pets, and the surrounding calmness all compose a beautiful landscape that only an artist with vivid imagination could have created. It’s a kind of environment which calms and elevates you making you forget all your everyday problems and worries of life.
The first village we meet on our tour is Kamari, with 40 inhabitants and beautiful homes, located on the hillside overlooking the entire valley. It lies 12 km from the town and the main occupation and concern of residents is fishing, agriculture and livestock. Next is a village called Vroutsi with 82 inhabitants, who are engaged in farming. Here the landscape is composed of white houses with aromatic gardens full of basil and gilly flowers. The smiling faces of the people of Kato Meria make you feel like you are in a place where goodness, purity and tranquility reign.
