| Many
years ago Pirates from the East set out to loot Amorgos and the wealthy
Monastery of Panagia of Hozoviotissa. As they were sailing the southern
coast of the island they spotted Kroukelo cape and the attractive beach
of Halara and decided to moor and rest. Panagia (Virgin Mary) who protects
the whole island petrified their captain and has remained since then as
a rock. The rest of the pirates scared as they were, they abandoned their
two ships which drifted by the waves finally stopped below the Monastery.
Panagia petrified these two as well. They are the iles of Megalo and Mikro
Viokastro right next to Ag. Anna and the Monastery respectively. |
